The illusion of choice?

This graphic was posted on Facebook under the title ‘The Illusion of choice, the point being that very few corporations control the multitude of brands we choose to invite into our lives. We may not like the corporation – its values, its treatment of staff, the environment or indeed its generosity to directors but do we know what brands it owns? Many brands owned by the same corporations are competitors in similar markets, carefully branded to scoop up different market shares. Does it matter?

The brand logo is how we make our choice. How important is the corporate logo of the business that owns the various brands? We make choices on the former and most of the time we rarely come into contact with the latter unless some malpractice sparks the press to display it beside damaging publicity. Yet each logo is powerful in its own right and at some level must work in harmony with each other for the good of the corporation that owns them
